A Shelburne County man who called police about a break and enter into his residence is facing drug and weapon charges after police discovered a marijuana grow-op in the basement during their investigation.
Cpl. Mark Skinner said Barrington RCMP were called to a home on Stoney Island Road in Clam Point on Feb. 14 after the occupant reported that someone had broken in and stolen a video surveillance system.
While officers were investigating, they noticed the marijuana plants. Police returned with a warrant three days later and seized 59 marijuana plants, processed cannabis, cocaine, shatter, psilocybin, other cannabis products, a conducted energy weapon and cash.
Troy Duncan Waybret, 29, of Clam Point, has been charged with possession of cocaine and possession of psilocybin, possession of illicit cannabis, possession of illicit cannabis for the purpose of distribution, distribution of illicit cannabis, possession of more than four cannabis plants, cultivating more than four cannabis plants, altering the properties of cannabis with an organic solvent, possession of a prohibited weapon and three counts of breaching probation.
He was released from custody and will appear in Shelburne provincial court April 21.
Police are still investigating the original break and enter call. A black truck was seen leaving the property that is believed to be connected, but there was no description of the occupants. Anyone with information can contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
