SYDNEY, N.S. — Cape Breton Regional Police have charged four people with 55 charges after a month-long investigation related to theft, stolen property, weapons and drugs.

The investigation dates back to Oct. 30 when officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the Hardwood Hill cemetery.

After approaching the vehicle and requesting identification from passengers, it drove away and was later reported parked on Cabot Street in Sydney where three males were seen running from it.

Inside the vehicle, officers found drugs and a weapon, which had been previously reported stolen from outside the province.

Officers were able to identify the man believed to be driving the vehicle and were led to a residence on Victoria Road on Nov. 12.

The suspect fled from the driveway when he saw police, but officers spotted three additional people inside a second vehicle reported stolen from outside the province and connected to other separate ongoing investigations.

The initial suspect was later arrested on Nov. 24 in a vehicle stop at the intersection of SPAR and Lingan roads.

Stephen Frederick Hanna, 36, of Sydney was scheduled to appear in Sydney provincial court on Thursday. He’s charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, three weapons charges, and numerous breaches of probation.

Meanwhile, Isaiha Leonard Keagan, 24, of Balls Creek is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Dec. 14 charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, drug trafficking, three weapons charges and breaching previous court-ordered conditions.

Courtney Reid-Boone, 22, of Westmount is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Dec. 21 charged with drug possession and breaches of previous court-ordered conditions.

Jonathan James Fitzgerald, 28, of Sydney Mines is also scheduled to appear in provincial court of Dec. 21. He’s charged with dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, resisting arrest, drug trafficking, and breaches of previous court-ordered conditions.

Further charges are pending against an additional three people.
