Trial dates confirmed 

Supreme Court trial dates have now been confirmed for two Sydney accused charged with first-degree murder.
The pair is charged in the stabbing death of 41-year-old Stephen Richard Rose whose remains were found inside a Rotary Park apartment in Sydney on Nov. 5, 2019.
Joseph Frederick Evong, 38, who continues to be on remand, is now scheduled to stand trial April 4-22, 2022.
A co-accused, Jessica Anne MacDonald, 33, is now to stand trial May 2-27, 2022. MacDonald also continues to be on remand.

Additional charges filed 

Sentencing for a Ben Eoin man on weapons offences has been adjourned after the accused entered guilty pleas on two additional offences.
James Robert Osmond Berthiaume, 53, previously pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a firearm (a 303-rifle) knowing he had no licence and careless storage of a weapon. Other weapon-related offences were dismissed.
The offences occurred in Ben Eoin on Oct. 16, 2020.
He has now entered guilty pleas on two additional offences — carrying a concealed weapon, a credit card knife, and breaching a court order by possessing a weapon. The offences occurred in Sydney on Jan. 4.
Berthiaume was scheduled to be sentenced this week but the case has now been adjourned until April 8.
Meanwhile, weapon offences filed against co-accused Jennifer Lynn Chisholm, 50, also of Ben Eoin, have been dismissed.
Berthiaume continues his release on conditions.

Plea date assigned on trafficking offence

A plea date has been set for a Glace Bay man facing charges including drug trafficking.
David Owen Krewenki, 56, of Marconi Street is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in oxycodone and possession of money knowing it was obtained by crime.
The offences are alleged to have occurred Dec. 15, 2020, in Glace Bay.
Krewenski is now scheduled to enter pleas March 22.

Plea date assigned 

A Glace Bay man is to return to provincial court in March to enter pleas on trafficking offences.
James Bernard MacPherson, 63, of Connaught Avenue is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking relating to oxycodone and Valium along with a single count of possession of money knowing it was obtained by crime.
The offences are alleged to have occurred Dec. 15, 2020, in Glace Bay.
MacPherson is now scheduled to enter pleas to the charges March 23.
