AMHERST, N.S. – Three more people have been charged by Amherst Police for disobeying orders under the Health Protection Act.

Officers issued the tickets after investigations revealed the three had violated the order issued by the province’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Robert Strang, on March 23 as part of the state of emergency that requires people entering the province to self-isolate for 14 days.

The provincial order requires people to self-isolate the day they cross the border and requires them to refrain from entering any building, public transportation or enclosed spaces, other than their home residence, where people are present.

The investigations found the three people had crossed the border and were supposed to be in self-isolation, but were found shopping at a local business.

The maximum fine under the act is $1,000 fine.

Last week, police laid a charge against an adult male after officers were called to a house party on March 29.
