A 61-year-old Albany man faces impaired driving charges after causing a single vehicle collision on Route 1A in Albany.

On Dec. 11 just before 3 p.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a 911 call about the collision and were informed there was smoke coming from the vehicle.

RCMP officers responded to the scene and spoke to the driver and witness.

The driver was taken into custody for impaired driving and was escorted to the East Prince RCMP detachment, where he provided breath samples over the legal limit.

The driver was released with court documents and will be appearing in provincial court in February to face charges of impaired operation (by alcohol) of a motor vehicle and impaired operation over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

The East Prince RCMP would like to thank the Borden Carleton Fire Department and Island EMS for their assistance in this matter.

Police are urging the public to plan ahead and ensure they have a sober driver available prior to drinking, so as not to risk their own life or that of someone else.

Impaired driving remains a leading criminal cause of death and until changes in attitude are made, it will continue to injure and kill - the right decision is easy to make - don't drive impaired.
