Former musical P.E.I. resident to perform at Ceilidh in the City

George Brothers returns to the Island for a July 17 show

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. —

Ceilidh in the City has only hosted a handful of come-from-away performers in its nine seasons

The most notable return-from-away musician to date, George Brothers, will be performing on Wednesday, July 17.

Brothers has enjoyed a musical career which has taken him from coast to coast and back again where he has performed with a number of groups over the past 30-plus years.

The former Island resident is returning to P.E.I. for a one night only performance at Ceilidh in the City at the Jack Blanchard Centre which is located at 7 Pond St., Charlottetown. He will be joined by Nova Scotia musicians Lisa Hallett, Kenny Langley and Nathan Langley.

Brothers is calling it his “Atlantic Sons and Daughters 30th Anniversary Tour” as it marks 30 years since the band’s album was voted favorite folk and traditional recording at the P.E.I. Country and Traditional Music Awards.

"We’ll be combining tunes from Atlantic Sons and Daughters with folk, gospel and country music,” says Brothers.

He says each of the band members brings something special to the show.

“Lisa has a naturally warm vocal style which lends itself well to the music we’ll be doing. Kenny has one of the purest country voices you’ll hear anywhere.”

His son Nathan, 18, is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter who has released a recording of original material.

This foursome will join the weekly hosts of the Ceilidh In the City — Kendall Docherty, Peter Burke, Heartz Godkin, Brian Knox and Brian Blacquiere — for what promises to be an amazing night of music.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for general admission. A canteen and bar service are provided by the Knights of Columbus. A 50/50 draw will also take place in support of the Ceilidh Gives Back Fund which supports various Island charities and families in need.
