TRYON, P.E.I. — Tryon Museum will be open by appointment only this summer because of COVID-19 restrictions.
A maximum four people at one time will be permitted in the museum. COVID-19 protocol applies.
Changes have also been made to the original programming plans. Since 2020 marks 300 years of French and Acadian presence on P.E.I. a special display had been planned to honour the Acadians who settled at Tryon. This display has been postponed until 2021.
For 2020, the museum will feature permanent collections: the Island’s First Indigenous Visitors; Acadian Settlers; later European Arrivals and History of Radio on P.E.I. Additional displays will feature the Importance of Rivers in Early Settlement and the History of Lighting.
Tryon River Trail is an optional part of the museum experience linking the natural and human history of the community. Interpretive panels are placed along the trail, and many of the historic sites and native shrubs and trees have QR codes which can be scanned to take viewers to web pages featuring additional information. The trail is open for unguided use any time or for personally guided tours. COVID-19 protocol applies for both options.
As a virtual experience, tryonareahistoricalsociety.com provides a video interpretation of the history of the area, annual newsletters, a link to the on-line radio museum and a description of the trail.
