Have your vacation days booked and trips planned for the spring but considering canceling it? Or maybe you have been thinking about spending a few days on a beautiful island but are not sure if you will end up paying a fee for changing the flight? You might want to read this.
Five Canadian companies have updated their policies on canceling and booking flights due to coronavirus.
Westjet
New bookings made between March 5 and March 31 will be allowed a one-time change fee waiver, provided the change was made more than 14 days from departure. Otherwise, standard change fee rules apply.
If you booked a Basic fare, depending on the time you booked your flight and the departure date, you will be able to change your flight either for free or at a lower cost.

Air Canada
If you have flights to, from or via the countries and regions listed below, you might be able to cancel or change your flight free of charge depending on your travel and booking dates.

- Italy
- China: Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan
- South Korea
- Japan
- Imam Khomeini Int., Iran

Porter Airlines
Porter is temporarily waiving change fees to provide passengers with more freedom to travel and peace of mind when booking. This applies to any Porter or Porter Escapes booking made between March 6 and March 31, 2020, for travel within the next 12 months. The fee waiver applies to changes made at least 14 days before departure of a passenger’s original flight. For changes within 14 days of travel, standard change fee rules apply.

Air Transat
Any flight booked between March 4 and 31, will be allowed a change fees waiver.
All customers who booked flights on or before March 2 for travel to Italy until June 30 can change their date or destination for a trip until Oct. 31.

Sunwing Airlines
- For new bookings made between March 4th and March 19th, 2020 Sunwing will waive any administration fees associated with the first change.
- This applies to all new bookings with a departure date from now up to and including June 24th, 2020.
- Any change must be requested at least 14 days prior to travel or normal conditions will apply.
