CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Christmas Concert this Friday in the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall of the Irish Cultural Centre in Charlottetown will feature the popular Island music group, Tip Er Back.

The group includes musicians Allan Betts, Wade Murray and Clive Currie, along with singer Darlene Bradley. Cynthia MacLeod is the fiddler for the evening.

This concert will feature many Christmas favourites, along with a mix of Maritime favourites, traditional Gaelic, country and some original music.

Betts, Currie and Murray were members of Kickin’ Country, the popular dance band that played at many dance halls on P.E.I.

Betts is not only a singer and musician but a songwriter. He has penned the song “And I Owe Life to You”, sung by many musicians, including P.E.I.’s Dino Dunsford. Clive Curry can usually be persuaded to do some yodelling during a show, and Bradley of Rice Point will add her harmonies and perform some of her favourite music.  Sometimes she can even be persuaded to give the audience a step dance during the evening as a special treat.

MacLeod has a distinct style of fiddling that embraces both her local roots and her ancestral connection to the Scottish Highlands. Since the beginning of her fiddling career as a young teenager, she has spent more than 15 years on stages on P.E.I., Canada and the U.S., and as far abroad as Cuba and Japan, astounding audiences with her unique performance style.

There will be a 50/50 draw at the wheelchair accessible and licensed hall, which is located at 582 North River Rd. Admission is at the door. Lunch is included and served during the intermission. For more information call 902-213-3924.
