Dog owners lose their dogs every day, and it can happen to the most responsible pet owner. Dogs can escape out your front door, run from the car, chase wildlife from your property, slip out of their collar or disappear from your backyard. You are left in tears, feeling as though you will never see them again.

But rest assured, because if you live in Nova Scotia, there is reliable and trusted help available for your family. The Nova Scotia Lost Dog Network (NSLDN) is a dedicated group on Facebook with an unheard of 85 per cent success rate reuniting lost dogs with their families.

It will be 10 years this September since Janet Chernin, and her dear friend created NSLDN. They worked extremely hard monitoring the group until Chernin's friend retired in 2019. Since 2019, Chernin has been the sole administrator operating the Facebook. Chernin has endless energy and a strong work ethic.

She is very well known and popular among the local dog rescue community. She has not only lovingly fostered many dogs over the years; she currently owns five terrific rescue dogs. She is the sole proprietor of an in-home dog daycare and boarding service; therefore, you are in great hands with Chernin.

According to Chernin, "The Nova Scotia Lost Dog Network was formed to assist lost and found dogs. Through our network, we can quickly spread the alert about a missing or found dog and increase the 'eyes' by hundreds in merely seconds. We share information and resources that will provide support to the owners and finders of missing dogs. We prioritize the actions they should be taking and for spreading the word via the internet. With 39,000 plus volunteers who 'care to share,' we can help bring missing dogs home."

You can access the NSLDN site on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/NSLDN/. Please 'like' the page and share the lost dog posts. When a dog has found its way home, Chernin will post on Facebook that the dog is safe.

If, by chance, you need to post your lost dog on NSLDN, go to their Facebook page and send Chernin a private message. The message should include where the dog was last seen, the name of the dog and a picture. Please include your contact information, whether they were wearing a collar, their personality traits (friendly, approachable, nervous), and any other pertinent information you feel will help locate and identify your dog.

Chernin will reach out to you to confirm the information and post it for all to see and share. There is no charge for the listing as Chernin's sole mission is to return dogs to their families. Chernin monitors the page at all hours throughout the day and night, which shows how committed she is to connecting distraught Nova Scotian's with their missing dogs.

Chernin is a vibrant, intelligent woman who is passionate about dogs. Dog owners in Nova Scotia are fortunate to have such an enthusiastic and dedicated woman looking out for their lost pets.

Please be kind to animals.
