GLACE BAY, N.S. — After the initial shows sold-out quickly, four more dates have been added at the Savoy Theatre for “My Bonnie Lass,” an original musical co-written by Johnny Reid and Toronto playwright Matt Murray.

The first shows went on sale Tuesday and sold-out in just under three minutes. Two additional shows sold-out by noon on Wednesday.

Savoy Theatre’s executive director Pam Leader confirmed the addition of more show dates.

“We see these sell-outs as a sign of hope and good news for the future,” said Leader.

The additional dates are May 13, 2021 at 7 p.m.; May 14, 2021 at 7 p.m.; May 15, 2021 at 7 p.m.; May 16, 2021 at 2 p.m.

Tickets for the additional shows went on sale Thursday via the Savoy Theatre box office 902-842-1577 or at tickets.savoytheatre.com A pre-sale for members of Johnny Reid’s Tartan Army fan club opened Thursday at 9 a.m.

Due to the current uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, and in order to comply with current social distancing measures, only 50 per cent of the theatre’s seats will be made available for each performance during the initial release of tickets.

“I am so moved by the response so far to "My Bonnie Lass." This show holds such a dear place in my heart and I am so excited that we are going to be able to share it with so many wonderful people,” co-creator Murray, said in a news release.

Based on the true story of Reid’s grandmother Maggie, “My Bonnie Lass” chronicles the life of a working class mother of three, in postwar Lanarkshire, Scotland. When tragedy strikes and Maggie’s life is turned upside down, she must rely on her strength, her sense of humour and her loyal group of friends to pull her through.

For the safety of patrons and staff there will be no in-person or walk-up sales. Tickets are $50 plus $4.50 service fee. To purchase call 902-842-1577 or go to www.savoytheatre.com.
