Since finishing the funny and heartwarming Australian dramedy series Sisters on Netflix the other night, an earworm of the 1978 disco hit Born to Be Alive by Patrick Hernandez has been rattling around in my brain like a murder hornet in a glass jar, thanks to one of its characters trying to revive her failing showbiz career as a kids TV show host with an ethereal pop version of said pulsating classic.

It got to the point where it seemed the only way to banish it was to do a 1970s disco deep dive and so, like April’s “Anti-Grump” playlist of upbeat songs assembled through the power of stream of consciousness, here’s an irresistible dose of boogie fever and dancefloor freak-outs that are fully Disco Stu-approved, from stars like Sylvester and Donna Summer to the sleek sound of Chic and Canadian disco diva Patsy Gallant.

Patrick Hernandez - Born to Be Alive

Sylvester - You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

Donna Summer - On the Radio

Amii Stewart - Knock on Wood

The Sylvers - Boogie Fever

Chic - Le Freak

Patsy Gallant - From New York to L.A.

Sister Sledge - We Are Family
