New Music Friday #5 - A YouTube Playlist (link)
This fifth edition of New Music Friday is a pretty strong one, so I don't want to clutter this intro with a lot of chit chat, but with a cool new stop-motion video for Neon Dreams' latest single Sick of Feeling Useless, a gorgeous clip for Purity Ring's Stardew (featuring the imaginative designs of former Haligonian Megan James), and a Weezer rock anthem for socially-distanced fans and front-line workers, this feels like a fine musical break to enjoy now or over the weekend.
There's also a stop from Toronto band Soccer Mommy's "digital tour" with multiple versions of the animated video for Crawling in My Skin set in the towns the band was supposed to visit before COVID-19 shut that down. I picked Minneapolis because all those skyways reminded me a bit of downtown Halifax. There's also the powerful new tune Warrior from P.E.I. songwriter Rachel Beck's upcoming new album Stronger Than You Know, a dreamy instrumental from the Barr Brothers and a video made in isolation by Half Moon Run, who were scheduled to perform at this summer's now-cancelled Halifax Jazz Festival.
