CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Local author Bren Simmers will launch her new book “Pivot Point’’ on Friday at Beaconsfield's Carriage House in Charlottetown.
Joining her will be her husband, Adam Hill, who will be releasing his new album, “Water in the Draw’’.
Doors for this free event will open at 7 p.m. Simmers will give a short reading at 7:30 p.m., followed by a short performance by Hill on stand-up bass, Chris Corrigan on guitar and Syd Acharya on piano.
“Water in the Draw’’ features five original folk/roots songs and three traditional fiddle tunes performed on the stand-up bass. This is Hill’s fifth album, which he recorded on a 10,000-acre cattle ranch in Wyoming.
Simmers’ “Pivot Point’’ is a lyrical account of a nine-day wilderness canoe trip through the Bowron Lakes Canoe Circuit in British Columbia. At the heart of the expedition are three young women, friends whose lives seem at risk of drifting apart as they approach middle age.
