Poet and songwriter Bob Jensen had the opportunity to perform his spoken word poetry at the FolkEast Festival last month in Suffolk, England.

The P.E.I.-based performer and talent manager was joined by London-based guitarist and songwriter Jake Morley, who provided musical accompaniment.

Jensen says his material was well received.

“I met the artistic director coming off the stage after my second set, and she asked me to come back in 2019 to play bigger stages. There is a second English festival considering having me the week before FolkEast, so I may go back next summer.”

Jensen is currently working on several spoken word projects and has been collaborating with songwriters from Australia, Africa, Canada, Europe and Nashville.

Lennie Gallant says of his poetry that, “Bob Jensen’s poetry knows no borders. His scenes and images travers barren landscapes and wondrous beauty, deep sorrows and joyful celebration. It takes you on journeys that will make you both shudder and smile.”

Jensen recently posted his FolkEast performance in its entirety on SoundCloud.

Jensen grew up in Dalhousie, N.B. and toured and recorded in the 1980s, performing in coffee houses and bars across Canada as a singer-songwriter.

He released a full length LP, “First Time Since August” (1984), which is currently available worldwide on CD Baby.

He has also written an award-winning novel called “The Matchbox Funeral”, a darkly humorous story set in Dalhousie in the 1960s.
