While a lot of P.E.I. is gearing down after a busy summer of entertainment, that is not the case on the Summerside waterfront with Harbourfront Theatre as it is getting ready for a busy fall with a full lineup.
“Harbourfront is a unique venue on P.E.I. in that, while we love summer and our visitors, we also love catering to our loyal Islanders,” says Kieran Keller, Harbourfront Theatre’s executive director.
“ ‘Our Theatre, Your Theatre’ is our slogan for a reason. This is our community’s theatre year-round. So, we definitely don’t slow down at the end of summer; we just switch gears into a new equally busy season.”
As always for the theatre, its lineup boasts a diverse array of experiences. From celebrity musicians to musical theatre to comedy to Maritime favourites and international sensations, the Harbourfront stage is seeing it all once again.
For example, on Sept. 30, the Jim Cuddy Trio performs. For over 35 years, Cuddy has written songs that have become indelible in the soundtrack of Canadian lives.
“We’re beyond excited to have Jim Cuddy on stage this September,” says Keller. “What a perfect end to our summer season and the beginning of our fall 2018.”
Comedic performer and vaudevillian Tomáš Kubínek takes the stage on Oct. 3 with his show “Tomáš Kubínek — Miracle Man” billed as “a rip-roaring revival of strong-man stunts, couples-counseling, snake-healings, and mass-hypnosis that leaves audiences dazed, beaming and in love with life once again.”
Also in October, the theatre’s Backstage Pass Series returns allowing the audience to experience a performance from a different perspective and enjoy the show from on-stage seats with a panoramic view of the theatre in the background. The first Backstage Pass show is Oct. 13 with The Small Glories, a dynamic singer/songwriter folk duo. The second Backstage Pass performance will be Oct. 24 with Australian blues and roots artist and mind-blowing guitarist Lloyd Spiegel. There is limited seating for both shows.
Later in the fall, Harbourfront Theatre presents Jimmy Rankin on his “Moving East” tour. Rankin will be appearing Nov. 23.
The fall season also sees Harbourfront welcome The Barra MacNeils on Oct. 5, The Comic Strippers on Oct. 18, George Canyon with his “Made in Canada” tour Nov. 3, “Menopause the Musical” on Nov. 10, comedian Ron James on Nov. 14 and much more.
