Come Friday, Charlottetown residents can expect to see a lot more mice
around the city.
Worry not. They won't be the squeaky, disease ridden kind found
underneath old barns or in neglected fields.
Instead, they'll be little mouse statuettes, the kind being used as part of
a summer-long family game hosted by Downtown Charlottetown Inc., that kicks
off Friday.
The game is based off David Weale's children's book "The True Meaning of
Crumbfest" and focuses around the book's main character Eckhart.
Children are invited to learn about Charlottetown's heritage by finding the
bronze mouse statues using a list of clues.
Currently there are nine mice hidden around the city at various locations
beginning at Founder's Hall and ending at the Big Clock at City Hall.
Brochures of clues will be available at visitor information centres and
hotels in the downtown starting next week.
In the meantime, Charlottetown City Councilor Dave MacDonald said residents
needn't be worried about seeing little rodents turning up on street corners
or in neighbour's yards.
"It's not an infestation," said MacDonald.
MacDonald added the event is expected to last the rest of the summer and
will involve local businesses and organizations.
"It's something that will continue all summer long," he said.
If you know where the mice are, send us a comment telling us the location or send us an e-mail with a photo and location information and we will add it to the map.
