ABRAM-VILLAGE, P.E.I. — After a difficult start with the production of the French Christmas play "Le cadeau", Le Théâtre du Soleil Oublié Group is back in force with two upcoming French plays for winter and spring.

The troupe is offering "Jeanne d'Acadie" on Feb. 8 and 9 at l’École Évangéline. The play, by Paul Daniel Gallant, recounts the incredible journey of more than 30 years of Jeanne Dugas' life.

According to the author, more often than not, the heroes of history are men: priests, politicians and even soldiers. It is very rare to recognize the women who contributed so much to L'Acadie.

Unlike heroine Evangeline, Dugas was a real person who left her mark on history and was recognized as a person of historical significance in 2015.

The play stars Debbie Rousselle Montgomery, Maria Arsenault, Adrienne Gallant and the Grade 5 class of l’École Évangeline who will perform a variety of different roles.

The play will be presented on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Admission will be $10 for adults and $7 for students and those over 65. Children 5 years old and under enter for free.

Then in May, the French musical "J'étions les best" will be on display. The production tells the story of Claude and Priscille and their gang of friends in the summer of their graduation year in the 1960s.

More information about this play will become available in the coming months. Those interested in being part of the theatre group, as an actor, musician, stage manager or person in charge of costumes, sets, ticket sales at the door, etc. are asked to contact Velma LeBlanc at 902-439-5509 or by email at [email protected]
