The Community Foundation of P.E.I. teamed up with the Rotary Clubs of Hillsborough, Charlottetown Royalty and Summerside to raise in excess of $32,000 on Saturday at the five Sobeys locations.
The project was also supported by Sobeys, the province of P.E.I., the Department of Agriculture and Land and VanCo Farms.
Proceeds from the campaign were in support of Family Violence Prevention Services and the P.E.I. chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society.
“It was an incredible experience to pull the entire project together in a matter of a few days” said CFPEI president Jonathan Ross.
“It was just another example of Islanders coming together to support a wonderful initiative in support of two P.E.I. charities and we were happy to help co-ordinate the initiative”, he added.
Rotarians from the Rotary Clubs of Hillsborough, Charlottetown Royalty and Summerside volunteered to sell the tulips and were on site at various Sobeys locations in Charlottetown and Summerside throughout the day on Saturday.
“Sobeys was vital in the initiative and we wouldn’t have experienced the same success without having them involved. They showed themselves as wonderful corporate citizens in allowing us to set up inside their store locations and even went the extra mile to provide staff to help sell the tulips in the Montague location for the entire day on Saturday” said Kent Hudson, executive director of the Community Foundation.
“They truly welcomed us with open arms, and we can’t thank them enough."
After the final figures were tallied, the foundation announced that $32,123.01 will now be split between Family Violence Prevention Services and the P.E.I. chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society.
