SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Credit Union Place in Summerside was the hot spot on New Year’s Eve for families wanting to ring in the new year with tons of activities.
Everything was free at the CUP from 4-8 p.m., including a Summerside Western Capitals game against the Fredericton Red Wings (the home team won).
A balloon artist created fantastical headwear and toys. A team of face-painters was busy all night. The conference area was over-taken by bouncy castles, and musicians kept the tunes coming in the lobby.
More than 2,300 people attended the hockey game, and the pool, bowling alleys and second ice surface were all open and free for everyone to use.
Credit Union gave away thousands of favours to help celebrate the New Year.
By the numbers:
- 400 hats
- 400 tiaras
- 400 leis
- 800 horns
- 300 glow rings
At the end of the night, everyone’s thoughts turned to the year ahead.
Jaxen Gaudet is looking forward to going to Disneyworld in January, said mom Neisha Starling.
“Rides and Medieval Times,” he said when asked what he was most looking forward to.
Ruby Schurman held a green balloon sword and sat in her mom’s arms.
She was getting tired and announced she was not going to soccer in the new year.
“I’m too little,” she told her mom Ashley Schurman.
Makenzee Matheson and brother, Jude Matheson, each have big plans for the new year.
“(I want to) become a really good dancer. Like, really good,” said Makenzee.
She is already in ballet, contemporary and hip-hop classes.
A Kensington Viper hockey player, Jude was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in February 2019. His goal for 2020 is to meet someone on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“Maybe the whole team.”
