CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Variety Show on Saturday, Feb. 27, in the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall at the Irish Cultural Centre, 582 North River Rd., will feature five students from Holland College School of Performing Arts.

There will be a 50/50 draw during the evening, and a light lunch is served during the intermission.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show runs 7:30-10 p.m. Admission price is at the door. Everyone is welcome.

The BIS is again partnering with the Holland College School of Performing Arts (SOPA) for this show. Students in the music performance program at Holland College SOPA study Celtic music as part of their curriculum. They learn about the history of the Celtic musical tradition in the classroom and they prepare and perform pieces in their Celtic ensembles. The featured students include Tom Gammons (acoustic guitar) from Butte, Mont., Lucia Dostal (flute/vocals) from Florence, Mass., Maryse Guignard (fiddle) from Bois-Gagnon, N.B., Caedda Enright (harp/vocals) from Petty Harbour, N.L., and Reade Gauvin (piano/vocals) from Moncton, N.B.

Gammons will be the host of the performance and will introduce the students. He is a recently graduated student from the SOPA program, working to strengthen the Celtic and traditional music scene in Canada.

At the end of the last year’s performance by the SOPA students at the hall on Feb. 22, 2020, many members of the audience commented on the wide variety of talent the students displayed and on how much they enjoyed the evening.

Seating is limited due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions. For more information, call Mary Ellen at 902-213-3924.
