CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Stewart Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary recently presented its seventh annual Dr. Joyce Madigane Memorial Scholarships to Halle Augustine, Hilary Bulger and Caitlin MacLennan, who are all studying at UPEI.

Augustine and MacLennan are both fourth-year bachelor of science in nursing students, and Bulger is a third-year radiography student.

Madigane served the Tyne Valley area as a family doctor and medical director of Stewart Memorial Hospital for nearly 40 years before her death in 2014. She was always very encouraging of young people who were considering a career in health care.

The auxiliary created the scholarship to keep alive the memory of her service to the community. As of this year, $12,000 in scholarships have been awarded.
