A Polly Day tea will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2-4 p.m.

Aug. 7 marks the 216th anniversary of the Polly landing in Orwell Bay. The Polly was the first of “three fine sailing vessels” commissioned by Lord Selkirk to bring Scottish highlanders — “very fine class of immigrants”— to Prince Edward Island in 1803.

The Croft House in Eldon will be closed this afternoon, but people are invited to join Belfast Historical Society interpreters at Orwell Corner Historic Village hall as a painting, normally safely stored, is unveiled for all to enjoy. The Polly at anchor was painted by renowned Canadian artist John M. Horton (commissioned by the MacRae family on the 200th anniversary of the Selkirk Landing in 2003).

Refreshments will be provided. General admission to the Orwell Village will be reduced to $5 at this time and includes the Polly Day tea, sponsored by Belfast Historical Society and Orwell Corner Historic Village.

For more information, call the Croft House at 902-659-2209 (Tuesday through Saturday).
