Women Focus Canada’s first ever Women’s Day Event will feature Dr. Heather Morrison speaking about women’s leadership and resilience during the pandemic.

This free Zoom event will be held on March 6, noon to 2:30 p.m. AST.

The international lineup of speakers also includes three other Maritimers: Pamela Lovelace and Patty Cuttell who will speak on bringing gender parity to Halifax city council, and Vanessa Ling Yu, a native of New Glasgow, N.S., who founded the social enterprise caterToronto, which helps newcomers to Canada start food businesses.

“If we want to elevate the status of women and girls in Canada and around the world, we need to hear positive stories of resilience and success,” says Oluremi Adewale, Women Focus Canada founder.

“This is particularly important at this time, when the whole world is leaning on us as wives, sisters, mothers and daughters.”

Other speakers include:

  • Dr. Fozia Alvi, a humanitarian who organizes medical aid to the Rohingya of Myanmar and the Uyghurs of China,
  • Maryam Tsegaye, a teenager who is the first Canadian to win the Breakthrough Junior Challenge, an international science and math competition,
  • Dora Siliya, Zambia’s chief government spokesperson and minister of information and broadcasting services, and
  • Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chair/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
