P.E.I. filmmaker Susan Rodgers will celebrate the world premiere of her first feature film, Still the Water, at the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival Stream this September.
Viewers can begin streaming the film at home from midnight Sept. 17 until midnight Sept. 25.
Rodgers said the project was a "labour of love".
“After enduring funding obstacles, production delays and now a global pandemic, I can finally deliver my film. There are so many people who gave their heart and soul to the project. We are all ecstatic.”
There may not be a red-carpet gala and the smell of fresh popcorn, but Rodgers sees the silver lining in debuting her film completely online.
“Any other year, a festival debut meant a limited audience,” says Rodgers. “Now through FIN’s digital platform, all of Atlantic Canada can see my film. Maybe it was meant to be.”
Completely shot in P.E.I. with director of photography Christopher Ball at the helm (camera operator for The Lighthouse, Aquaman), Still the Water stars Ry Barrett (Open Your Eyes, The Demolisher), Colin Price (Murdoch Mysteries, Disasters at Sea) and Christina McInulty (Til Ex Do Us Part).
It is about a despairing hockey player who returns home to P.E.I., but his reappearance fuels jealousy and the emergence of a long-buried, painful truth.
The film, which was written, produced and directed by Rodgers, was primarily funded by private equity via the Island's provincially regulated CEDB share program.
Still the Water features music from local artists Catherine MacLellan, Irish Mythen, Nathan Wylie, and the song Blood and Salt Water was written for the film by Lennie Gallant.
The film's executive producer was Nicolle Morrison and it was produced by Rick Gibbs.
Tickets can be purchased online through FIN’s website.
