Boulder Books has released its latest field guide, Geology of New Brunswick: Touring through time at 48 scenic sites. 

This marks the third in a series of highly successful user-friendly guides to geology for Atlantic Canada, with this volume co-authored by Martha Hickman Hild and Sandra Barr.

A traveller’s guide to sites of geologic interest in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, this book includes maps, GPS waypoints, travel directions, a trip planner and intriguing nuggets about the rocks and their locations. This makes it easy for anyone to visit breathtaking, informative places both on and off the beaten path. 

Together, these sites reveal the geological history of the two provinces. Colour photographs and accompanying descriptions capture the appeal and significance of the rocks at each site. Using easy to understand language, this book will appeal to anyone with an intrigued by geology and in exploring the natural wonders of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

Barr is a faculty member in the department of earth and environmental science at Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S. Widely recognized as an expert in the geology of Nova Scotia, she is also co-editor of the scientific journal Atlantic Geology and is book editor for the Geological Association of Canada.

Hickman Hild has a PhD in earth sciences who, early in her career she co-directed a research laboratory and lectured in geology. She also more than 25 years of experience in publishing, including work as a textbook editor and as a prize-winning news researcher.

A good addition to a COVID must-read list, it is perfect for planning an escape into the natural world as it opens up, allowing readers to visit special sites while following social distancing rules.
