SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Three Oaks students took the time to make the holidays bright for some children in the Summerside area.
The group from the aerospace/aviation program donated their lunch breaks to make model airplanes.
"They had a quick bite to eat and they were half hour – 45 minutes at lunch on their own time, they built these things at lunch," said teacher Donnie Gallant.
The aerospace program has about 27 students that spend two hours each morning in the C-tech building hangar working on the school’s two Cessna aircraft.
“We work on airplanes, we work on engines, we have a wind tunnel that the kids work on,” said Gallant.
As well as the aerospace hangar, the C-tech building houses programs for welding, automotive and carpentry.
The eight flyboys made three wooden F-14 tomcat fighter jets that went to children in need this Christmas.
Gallant has partnered with someone who helped to distribute them to children in care.
“They worked pretty hard on them; they were pretty proud of themselves. It was awesome,” said Gallant.
“Just for high school kids to donate their time is a big deal.”
