CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Celtic harpist Lana Quinn, Shane Pendergast and Margie Carmichael will be featured at the ceilidh on Friday, Oct. 16, in the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall in the Irish Cultural Centre, 582 North River Rd., Charlottetown.
There will be a 50/50 draw during the evening at the wheelchair accessible and air-conditioned hall, and a light snack will be served during the intermission. The hall is licensed. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Admission is at the door.
Quinn is a singer/songwriter/harpist who has run a private music studio for over 25 years, teaching piano, voice, guitar and harp. She has produced three CDs of original music and has been featured at many special events as well as concerts at the Irish Hall. The music she performs on the Celtic Harp, to soothe the soul, ranges from renaissance to contemporary, including Irish, Scottish and French folk tunes.
Pendergast hails from Tracadie Cross, the grandson of two Irish tenors and the son of well-travelled local musician Michael Pendergast. He recently recorded an album of folk music called Place to the Name steeped in East Coast tradition and had performed regularly during the winter in Toronto, where he had been attending film school. He has played at the Irish Hall several times already this year to very appreciative audiences.
Carmichael is a well-known Prince Edward Island musician, entertainer, songwriter, author and playwright. She has written radio plays, theatre sketches and parodies that CBC has aired locally, regionally and nationally. In 2006, Acorn Press published her first book, titled and my name is...Stories From the Quilt. Carmichael, an accomplished singer/songwriter, has written another local favourite song, Red Dirt Road. She has performed many times at the BIS since the society began hosting ceilidhs in the 1980s.
