CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The P.E.I. Association for Newcomers to Canada (PEIANC) has a new program that provides education for newcomers to Canada on a variety of topics.

The Canada School program is collaborating with the Charlottetown Fire Department presented a session on fire safety for the Arabic speaking community on Nov. 12. It held another one at the Fire Hall on Kent Street Nov. 20 with the final one set for Dec. 4.

The presentations will reinforce the idea of maintaining safety in the house and the importance of making a fire safety plan for the home and family.

Fire Inspector Winston Bryan feels that fire safety education is vitally important to recognize cultural differences that arise when newcomers are not aware of fire safety guidelines in Canada as opposed to their countries of origin.
