The Chaisson Trio will be taking the stage in the community hall at Orwell Corner Historic Village on Oct. 17.

After hosting weekly ceilidhs in Orwell throughout the summer and into the fall, this trio of Kevin Chaisson on keyboard, Rannie MacLellan on fiddle and Louise Chaisson-MacKinnon on guitar and vocals will give fans of traditional music a reason to get out for a Saturday concert with their show that starts at 7:30 p.m.

Social distancing guidelines will be in place. All are welcome, but due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, seating will be limited in the hall. Admission is at the door. Reservations can be made by calling 902-651-8515.

The Chaisson Trio performs medleys of Scottish and Irish jigs and reels, strathspeys and slow airs, mixed with traditional ballads and Maritime songs.

Chaisson, a piano player from Bear River, has deep roots in traditional music on P.E.I. as his family has been influential in keeping fiddling alive in the province and in operating the Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival each year. In addition, some Chaisson family members represent the Island on the international music stage.

MacLellan is a fiddle player from Cape Breton, who now lives in Prince Edward Island. His signature rhythmic strathspeys and lively reels are highlights of his playing, showcasing the Cape Breton style of fiddling inspired by various fiddlers, such as the late Jerry Holland.

Chaisson-MacKinnon, the vocalist of the group, has a soulful voice and a large repertoire of songs to share. She is also an exceptional guitar player and accompanies MacLellan and Chaisson for their sets of traditional tunes.
