Although the reality of COVID-19 has required some changes, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award-Prince Edward Island is still available for all youth ages 14 through 25 with guidance and support provided through the local award office at 40 Enman Cres., Suite 121, Charlottetown.

The program promotes skill development, fitness, community engagement and environmental exploration through three levels of achievement: bronze, silver and gold. This year, over 1,300 Island young people are continuing to participate in one of the three levels of the award.

Due to the restrictions necessary due to the pandemic, several adjustments have been made to the award requirements including broadening the definitions of volunteer opportunities to include at home options and allowing adventurous journeys to take place in more familiar destinations due to travel and social distancing limitations. As well, participants who are nearing their 25th birthday will have a one-year extension to complete and submit their award documentation.

The annual award ceremony for those who have merited the bronze and silver levels of the award has been postponed due to the size of the gathering. However, plans are ongoing to celebrate these achievements as circumstances and public health guidelines permit.

For more information on how interested youth can enrol in the award program or to clarify the recent changes for on-going participants, contact The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award office by email at [email protected] , phone at 902-368-6623, or visit the web-site at dukeofed.org/pe/division-home.
