The 22nd edition of the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie takes place March 1-31 with activities planned for for all age groups across Prince Edward Island.

Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie (RVF) is part of the events surrounding the Journée Internationale de la Francophonie (March 20), which is organized every year around the world to promote the French language and its numerous cultural expressions. As part of the month, the RVF has a program of French-language activities, shows and cultural events throughout the province.

This year’s slogan, Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, at the centre of change, will focus on many facets of the environment, including  climatic, social, communal and cultural. Since 2020 also marks the 300th anniversary of the arrival and permeant settlement of the French and the Acadian on Prince Edward Island, the P.E.I. schedule of events of the 22nd RVF will also reflect on this historic event.  

The official opening ceremony of the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie is March 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Government House in Charlottetown. Among those attending will be Lt.-Gov. Antoinette Perry, with presentations expected from la Société Saint-Thomas d’Aquin and the Fédération Culturelle de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. All are welcome to attend this event, which will be followed by a small reception.

Among the activities on offer, the RVF 2020 opening celebration will be held on Monday, March 2, in Charlottetown at the Carrefour de l’Isle-Saint-Jean, 5-8 p.m. Enjoy an evening of entertainment featuring music by Anique Granger and Caroline Bernard, local visual artists demonstrations, kids’ activities, oyster chucking with Robert Pendergast and a tasty culinary surprise by Chef Pierre El Hajja.

On March 20, to celebrate International Francophonie Day, Soup'Art event will take place at the Confederation Center of the Arts in Charlottetown, 5-7 p.m. The program includes tasting delicious soups, of course, but also invites participants to enjoy live music and a variety of art works. 

During these days of celebrations, the public is also invited take part in a wide variety of activities, including concerts, culinary events, outdoor activities, activities for children and students, film screenings, information sessions, open houses and many more.
