SHERWOOD, P.E.I. — A special celebration is being planned this Saturday for a well-known P.E.I. musician.

For almost eight decades, Helen Stewart MacRae has touched the lives of thousands of people in this province through music festivals, main stage musicals and community theatre shows, The Venerables, the Confederation Centre choirs, DVA’s Canada Remembers chorus, nursing homes, weddings and funerals. From classical oratorio to church organ to ragtime jazz, she has given of her time and talent without thought of recognition or reward and is universally respected as a musician.

Saturday, July 18, presents an opportunity to show that love and respect — a surprise drive-by event. At 10:45 a.m., a cavalcade will form up in the parking area of the Cody Banks Arena on Maple Avenue in Sherwood and then at 11 a.m. make its way to parade, with brief horn-toots and noisemakers, flags, balloons and banners, past her home.

The event is being held to celebrate her birthday, as well as help lift her spirits, following the death of her brother and a fall that has left her recovering from a broken hip.

All those friends and beneficiaries of her community contributions are invited to join the cavalcade of honour. For information, call Mary Gard, 902-569-2765.
