SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A waterfront venue in Summerside is set to host performances, markets and activities as part of a global Acadian gathering.
The Silver Fox Entertainment Complex, in partnership with La Belle-Alliance, is presenting La Grande veillée sur mer on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 9 p.m.
This new show will part of the Congrès mondial acadien (CMA 2019) coming to Prince Edward Island and Southeastern New Brunswick, Aug. 10-24.

The City of Summerside was selected as one of the host municipalities for the CMA 2019 and La Grande veillée sur mer will be the big finale for the day.
“This is the very first time that the Congrès mondial acadien is taking place in Prince Edward Island. Therefore, it is important for The Silver Fox Entertainment Complex to be part of this internationally acclaimed event and to celebrate the Acadian culture,” says Gordon Lapp, general manager of the Silver Fox Entertainment Complex.
The Congrès mondial acadien is an international gathering held every five years. Its goal is to strengthen the ties that unite all Acadian communities throughout the world, while showcasing a modern and authentic Acadian identity. The Congrès is also an opportunity to welcome all those who are interested in l’Acadie. The event allows the host region to demonstrate its vitality, its attachment to a vibrant culture, and above all, its legendary openness to the world. This year marks the sixth edition of the Congrès mondial acadien as well as the 25th anniversary of the event.
La Grande veillée sur mer includes an artisans’ market featuring some of the best Acadian products available and traditional Acadian cuisine like râpure, meat pie, fricot and galettes blanches.
The mainstage show will feature top-notch Acadian musicians Jonny Arsenault &Friends as well as the extremely lively Ontario based group Les Rats d’Swompe. Special guests throughout the evening will include Island-based group DOC as well as the dance troupe Acadidanse because no kitchen party is complete without some high-energy step-dancing.
The Artisans’ Market is open to all ages. La Grande veillée sur mer is a 19-plus event.
