The countdown to spring is on.

The first day of the fresh season arrives on March 19 at 9:50 p.m. MDT and the green-thumbs folks will be itching to get to work in the garden.

Fortunately for them, the Calgary Home + Garden show rolls into the BMO Centre on Stampede Park on March 1, featuring more than 470 trusted brands and local companies, along with appearances from the biggest names in the industry.

The Avanica Home + Garden Stage presented by HGTV Canada, Golden Acre and Calgary Herald will feature gardening experts such as Janet Melrose, Calgary’s Cottage Gardener, Becky Feasby from Prairie Girl Flowers, Chelsie Anderson of Chelsie’s Garden Soil-utions, among others.

And look for DIY Demos, The Outdoor Edition, presented by the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

You’ll get expert advice on everything to make the outside of your home spring-ready, from patios and benches to planters and railings and learn how to upgrade your space with the help of SAIT experts. You’ll learn from some of Alberta’s best in the business and walk away with easy how-to fixes to take your patio or backyard to the next level.

If the yard needs some greening up, bid on one or two trees from Countryside Landscapes and Garden Centre, with 100 percent of the auction proceeds going to Youth Central.

The Calgary Home + Garden Show runs from Feb. 27 to March 1, at the BMO Centre at Stampede Park. For more information, or to buy tickets online and save $2, visit calgaryhgs.com
