CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Students in the School of Performing Arts’ music performance program are preparing for their annual fall showcase Dec. 12, 7 p.m. in the Florence Simmons Performance Hall.
From the time they arrive in September, the students work in ensembles to learn a variety of genres, including country, Celtic, rock, R&B, jazz, world music and pop.
The showcases, which happen in the fall and spring, give them the opportunity to perform their favourite pieces in front of an audience.
“The showcases have become very popular with local music lovers,” said program manager Liam Corcoran.
“In addition to our talented local students, we have students from all over the world.”
The two-year music performance program is one of four programs that form the School of Performing Arts (SoPA), a partnership between Holland College and Confederation Centre of the Arts.
The program uses official curriculum materials from Berklee College of Music in Boston for all core music courses and is a Berklee Global Partner.
SoPA also offers two-year programs in dance performance and theatre performance and a one-year performing arts foundation program.
Admission to the fall showcase is $15 and tickets are available at the box office of the Florence Simmons Performance Hall.
