The Halifax-shot legal drama Diggstown is going into international law, with the news that Fox is going to carry it in the U.S.

Created by Floyd Kane and airing on CBC-TV in Canada, the award-winning series stars Vinessa Antoine as high-priced corporate lawyer Marcie Diggs, who takes her skills to a legal-aid office to help those who need it most.

Fox picked up the first two seasons of 12 episodes of Diggstown, as it seeks international programming for its schedule while COVID-19 continues to disrupt television series production in the U.S. Previously, it acquired the Canadian reality series Holmes Family Effect, featuring Canadian home improvement expert Mike Holmes.

In 2020, Diggstown became available to stream on the BET+ platform in the U.S., but this deal with distributor eOne will mark its American broadcast debut. Besides the work of Antoine and main cast members like Stacey Farber, C. David Johnson, Brandon Oakes and Newfoundland native Natasha Hestridge, the show also features a notable cast of Nova Scotia actors in recurring and supporting roles, as well as having five of its episodes directed by Halifax filmmaker Cory Bowles (Black Cop).

In 2020, Diggstown earned two Screen Nova Scotia Awards, for Antoine for outstanding performance by an actor in a lead female role, and for Gay Hauser for outstanding performance by an actor in a supporting female role. In July, its producers announced it would begin filming its third season later in 2021.

Diggstown is co-produced by Circle Blue Entertainment, Freddie Films, Waterstar Entertainment and DHX Media. Besides creator Kane as executive producer and showrunner, the series is also executive produced by Amos Adetuyi, Brenda Greenberg, Karen Wentzell, Michael Donovan, Mark Gosine, Kelly Makin and Todd Berger.
