CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — To help people gear up for summer, Art in the Open, Upstreet Craft Brewing and the P.E.I. Bike Guy invite bicycle owners and rave-lovers to Taps and Tune-ups at Upstreet Craft Brewing on Saturday, July 20, 2-5 p.m.

Bring a bike to Upstreet Craft Brewing for a tune-up and a crisp craft brew in preparation for the P.E.I. Bike Rave 2019 in August. The P.E.I. Bike Guy, a.k.a. mechanic Geoff Murray, will be on hand to provide a quick tune-up for $15 (adjustment and lube only, no parts installation and no major repairs). Upstreet and Murray also invite anyone looking to get into more heavy-duty work in good company, to bring their tool kit.

“I love Art in the Open, especially the P.E.I. Bike Rave,” said Murray. “This year I’m giving back to the festival by donating a portion of the proceeds from the tune-ups I do during Taps and Tune-ups.”

While waiting for Murray’s bike work, enjoy an Upstreet craft beer for $1 off.

“We love partnering with Art in The Open and seeing how engaged and excited our community is. It just seems to get more fun every time. We love this year's green approach and look forward to decking out our bikes and hitting the town.”

It’s Upstreet Craft Brewing’s fourth year supporting the P.E.I. Bike Rave.

“We love partnering with Art in The Open and seeing how engaged and excited our community is. It just seems to get more fun every time,” said Upstreet marketing manager Marsha Gallant.

“We love this year's green approach and look forward to decking out our bikes and hitting the town.”

The P.E.I. Bike Rave, set for Aug. 16, is Art in the Open’s only fundraising event. Past P.E.I. Bike Raves have seen glow sticks and other single use plastic items used to decorate the bikes. Several participants commented about the amount of waste being generated by all of the disposable decorations.

“We listened and considered our options and as a result of that feedback, the focus of the P.E.I. Bike Rave is different this year,” said Becka Viau, the Art in the Open project manager.

“Going Green is the theme for this year’s bike rave. We are challenging people to buy their own LED lights and sustainable supplies to decorate their bikes for this year’s P.E.I. Bike Rave.”

To get riders inspired, there will be a sustainably decorated bike rave-ready bike on display at Upstreet Craft Brewing during Taps and Tune-ups.

Anyone who signs up to be an Art in the Open volunteer on July 20 will have a chance to win the bike decorations on display.
