Kanye West has been vindicated in a “Brunchella” fiasco that drew immediate comparisons to the immortalized, sad Fyre Festival cheese sandwich, TMZ reports.
On Friday, Nov. 1, the rapper performed with his Sunday Service choir at Bethany Church in Baton Rouge, La. as part of its annual “Brunchella” fundraiser. The concert was free, but attendees were given the option of partaking in a brunch buffet for $55, with proceeds going to the church.
The lacklustre offering — which included bacon, sausage patties and pancakes served up on a Styrofoam plate — inspired outrage and prompted at least one person to demand a refund, according to the Daily Mail .
“This is the wonderful & COLD brunch BUFFET we are being served,” attendee Kimberly Kinchen wrote on Facebook, captioning a photo of two dry pancakes, strips of bacon and a sausage patty. “The server looked at me crazy when I asked for another pancake.”
While the rapper — who donated his performance and reportedly covered all travel expenses for himself and his choir — was initially blamed for the uninspired meal, the catering company has since taken responsibility. “The catering company acknowledges it did not provide adequate food for ONE attendee and a social media post went viral,” Lauryn’s Fine Catering told TMZ. “Kanye West and the Sunday Service collective should be disassociated with such claims surrounding the food at the event.”
