Award-winning Island folk music group Fiddler’s Sons will be featured in tonight’s ceilidh at the Irish Cultural Centre in Charlottetown.

The group consists of Eddy Quinn, John B. Webster, Keelin Wedge and Courtney Hogan-Chandler. The band marked 20 years in the music business in 2017 with the release of a compilation album of their most requested songs. Fiddlers’ Sons: The Best of Twenty Years contains 22 selections written and performed by the band members that explore Island life and its people.

Quinn is the lead vocalist and also plays guitar and bodhran. He has released two solo albums for which he has received four P.E.I. Music Awards.

Webster is the group’s lead guitarist and backup vocalist. He grew up on the Station Road in Cardigan. From an early age he was interested in music and his home was always filled with it.

His father Jackie was a fiddle player and his grandfather Jack had a band called Jack Webster’s Orchestra, which played all over Kings County and was extremely popular in their time.

He met Quinn at guitar lessons in Lorne Valley and the rest is history. Webster has done quite a lot of writing on the five CDs the band has released.

Wedge is the newest member of the group and is a talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. She plays fiddle, guitar and also does vocals.

“She sings like an angel,” Quinn said.

Hogan-Chandler is known as the Fiddling Veterinarian. Besides performing and recording with the group, she had released two CDs of her own. She also recently released a collaboration album with Wedge titled Dark and Amber Rosin.

For 20 of their 22 years together, Fiddlers’ Sons have been playing their brand of grassroots music to packed houses at The Benevolent Irish Society.

There will be a 50/50 draw during this evening’s show at the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall, which is air-conditioned, wheelchair accessible and licensed. It is located at 582 North River Rd.

Doors open at 7, show starts at 8. Admission is $15 at the door. Children 12 and under remain at $5. Everyone is welcome, but there is a 100-person capacity.
