The 2020 Cabot Trail Writers Festival, held at Cape Breton’s Gaelic College in St. Anns takes place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4, on-air, online and outdoors.

This week, the festival announced six more authors for its 2020 lineup, which will occur on a variety of different platforms since holding indoor in-person events have been decided against due to the health risks of large gatherings in a small community.

With this year’s appropriate theme of The Resilience of Art and Community, the festival will virtually bring participants into the homes and workspaces of its authors as they discuss the origins of their ideas and their creative process.

Joining the Cabot Trail Writers Festival this fall are author, activist and broadcaster Desmond Cole (The Skin We’re In: A Year of Black Resistance and Power), Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg writer and musician Leanne Betasamosake Simpson (The Accident of Being Lost) and Newfoundland native author and playwright Megan Gail Coles (Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club).

Nova Scotia author and poet Anne Simpson (Canterbury Beach) will also take part, with Syrian-Canadian author and LGBTQ-refugees activist Danny Ramadan (The Clothesline Swing) and poet and short story writer Souvankham Thammavongsa.

They join previously announced artists Rebecca Thomas, Andre Fenton, Morgan Murray, Marjorie Simmins, Ian Williams and Marina Endicott.

This year, the Cabot Trail Writers Festival is free for all to attend, online or in-person for the outdoor events at the Gaelic College (weather permitting).
