Justin Timberlake posted a public statement to his Instagram on Wednesday night, apologizing to wife Jessica Biel for “a strong lapse in judgment” after photos of him seemingly canoodling with Palmer co-star Alisa Wainwright were published two weeks ago (a.k.a. The Day Our Relationship Goals Died).
In the photos, and a corresponding video, Timberlake appeared inebriated and could be seen holding hands with Wainwright, leading to rumours of an affair. At the time, the pair were on a break while filming in New Orleans.
In his statement, however, Timberlake denied cheating, and said he had simply been drinking too much.
Despite the fact that the photos had been published several weeks ago and the rumours had died down, it seems odd the 38-year-old would make a statement now. Though, he explains, the news was “hurting the people I love.”
“A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgement — but let me be clear — nothing happened between me and my co-star,” Timberlake wrote. “I drank way too much that night and regret my behaviour. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son. I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that.”
Timberlake has been married to Biel, 37, since 2012. The pair share one son, four-year-old Silas.
