Calgary Philharmonic’s Paul Dornian will retire in August of 2021 after serving five years as president and CEO.

The CPO’s board of directors made the announcement on Monday.

Dornian grew up in Calgary and joined the CPO as president in 2015 after serving on the board of directors for seven years, including two as chair.

The board will form a search committee to find a replacement.

In late June, the CPO announced it would postpone its season until January 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant cancelling more than 35 concerts and events scheduled between Sept. 11 and Dec. 16. . It will restart regular live performances in January of 2021, although will likely showcase some performances online or live in adherence to the province’s social-distancing rules.
