The staff of Middleton Regional High School wishes the 80 graduates in the class of 2020 all the best in their future endeavours, despite having the school year cut short and graduation ceremonies affected by the unusual circumstances brought about by restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While the 2019-20 school year was undoubtedly the strangest year in our school’s 70-year history, our graduates persevered to excel in many areas and will have plenty of memories from this year to go along with the memories from all their years of schooling,” principal Greg Bower told SaltWire Network recently.

Despite not attending school the last three months of the year, Bower said staff, students and the community banded together to provide many of the experiences that normally occur in the spring.

“Graduation, while very different from previous years, gave graduates lots of time with their teachers as they made their way around the graduation loop. Families were able to take more pictures than ever at various locations,” Bower said.

“The staff of Middleton Regional High School is very proud of our graduates of 2020 and wish them the best.”

Grad Rebecca Burbidge said the school excelled at helping everyone through tough times.

“They organized and carried out a beautiful graduation ceremony under the needed restrictions. It gave me a sense of closure that I needed, and I am very appreciative of the amazing staff who worked so hard to give myself and all my fellow grads our ceremony,” Burbidge said recently.

Burbidge said she would begin a bachelor of science degree in the integrated science program at Dalhousie University in the fall.

Rebekah Wade plans to pursue studies in English, English as a second language and education at the University of Alberta in the fall.

She is looking forward to eventually teaching English overseas “to provide opportunities to those who wouldn’t have received them otherwise.”

Wade added, “As difficult as it was to see our high school years cut short, the 2020 graduates from Middleton Regional High School are thankful for everyone who worked so hard to get us here today.”
