GLACE BAY, N.S. — Another major family show is coming to the Savoy Theatre in April.

But first, some talent is needed.

Auditions will take place Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., for all talent ages 16 and over for the upcoming show “Cinderella.”

The Savoy production is based on Jeremy Webb’s pantomime extravaganza that ran at Neptune last year.

“I chose it because it’s the Neptune script — they did it last April/May and then they held it over and did it in the summer and it was a huge hit,” says Savoy executive director Pam Leader. “Jeremy Webb did the adaptation based on the fairy tale “Cinderella” so it’s still the same story and it’s a lot of fun. I checked with people I knew who had seen it in Halifax and had gone back twice to see it, and I thought, 'you know what, that will definitely go here.'”

Leader says the pantomime format is a looser, more modern version.

“It’s a modern-day fairytale but it’s still the same story,” Leader explains. “There might be little changes in there. The music will be great — there will be some pop music, some top 40 in there and of course Stephen Muise is doing (the musical direction), so it’s going to be great.”

“Cinderella,” which bills itself as a musical comedy for the whole family, will be directed by Ron Jenkins, which Leader says should guarantee the musical’s success.

“I’m glad he’s back in Cape Breton,” Leader said about the writer/director who spent many years away from Cape Breton before moving back a few years ago. “He knows what he is doing.”

The show will run April 2-4, 7 p.m. on April 2 and April 3, and at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on April 4, and it will feature a cast of 20. If you’re interested in getting a part, you should prepare one song of your choice and email [email protected] to book your audition time.
