Islander Day can be celebrated in the pool and on a rink this year in Charlottetown.
The capital city’s Islander Family Fun Day on Monday, Feb. 18, kicks off with a free family skate at the Cody Banks Arena at 58 Maple Ave., 9:30-10:30 a.m. Helmets are mandatory for all participants.
There are two free family swims taking place at the Bell Aliant Centre on the UPEI campus, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. Free tickets are required and may be picked up in advance at the Bell Aliant Centre. There is a limit of six tickets per family. Children under seven years of age must be accompanied by an adult in the pool. For more information, contact 902-569-4584 Ext. 0.
“We encourage everyone to take advantage of all of the programming available in Charlottetown on Islander Day, whether it be the Jack Frost Winterfest, Islander Family Fun Day or something else,” said Coun. Kevin Ramsay, chairman of the city’s Economic Development, Tourism and Event Management committee.
“It’s a great time to get active and enjoy all winter has to offer.”
Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown said Islander Day offers an opportunity for people to spend more time with family and friends.
“There are many activities that take place over the Islander Day weekend, and our Islander Family Fun Day programming offers another avenue for families to get out and have some fun together,” said Brown.
