The 11th annual Stratford Rotary Run for Mikinduri is set to kick off Sunday morning, rain or shine.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Stratford Provincial Credit Union parking lot, 10 Kinlock Rd., and the race start is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Aintree Drive and Kinlock Road intersection.
The event offers two distance options. The 15-kilometre run features a challenging route along the town’s major collector roads, up and down a steep hill or two, past coastal scenery and along forest paths.
For those choosing to take the path of least resistance, there will be a five-km run with a few twists and turns. And, for families wanting to combine a celebration of the end of summer and return to school, with an opportunity to give to those less fortunate, a healthy five-km walk is on the schedule. The registration fee for the 15-km run is $15. Participants can register for the five-km run/walk for $10, and families participating in the walk register for $20.
The Rotary Club of Stratford is the hosting committee, assisted by representatives from the P.E.I. Roadrunners Club. The Provincial Credit Union continues its 11-year commitment as lead sponsor with a donation of $1,000 to the Mikinduri Children of Hope Foundation.
The Mikinduri Children of Hope Foundation is an Island-based international aid organization offering services to residents of the Town of Mikinduri, Kenya.
There are prizes for the top racers and door prizes, as well as food and refreshments at the finish line and African crafts for sale.
