Patrons of Montague’s Copper Bottom Brewing now have more options for hot food, says the brewery as the Montague taproom is serving hot handpies from The Handpie Company, based in Albany.
The Handpie Company, founded by Chef Sarah Benneto O’Brien in 2014, began distributing its products to P.E.I. retailers after moving facilities to Albany in 2017, allowing her to drastically increase production. She describes her product as a savoury, flaky pastry that's folded over to become a delicious half-moon of a personal pie meal.
“There’s always been a bit of a need for more food options in Montague beyond your typical fast food and pizza joints,” says Isaac MacIntyre, business development officer at Copper Bottom.
“When we heard that The Handpie Company started distributing their products through ADL, we jumped on the opportunity to carry their pies.”
Previously, Copper Bottom served only some light snacks and operated on a “bring your own food” policy, relying on other restaurants and food trucks to provide more substantial meals. The company still plans to partner with other vendors and chefs to create unique culinary events for the community throughout the year.
The brewery will launch with three flavours including BBQ Pulled Pork, Chicken Pot Pie and Curried Chickpea, with plans to rotate flavours on a weekly basis as more options become available.
Copper Bottom Brewing is the second retailer to be serving hot handpies in P.E.I., following Upstreet’s Craft Beer Corner.
