Holland College teams up with PEICMC for cannabis awareness campaign

In an emailed response from the Department of Justice and Public Safety, the department confirmed that an oral fluid drug testing device for cannabis has been approved by the federal government and they are awaiting its deployment in the province. The Canadian government approved of this device in September last year, but the department did not give a timeline for when these devices will be used in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Holland College’s student services department and Hurricanes Athletics are teaming up with the Holland College Student Union to raise awareness among students about responsible cannabis use.

The initiative kicked off on Feb. 6 at Holland College locations across the Island. The P.E.I. Cannabis Management Corporation (PEICMC) and the provincial government have provided support and resources, working collaboratively with Holland College to launch the campaign.
Holland College registrar Maureen Duffy said students, staff and faculty will be participating in activities aimed at providing students with information about cannabis use.

“Our goal is increase awareness and understanding of the risks inherent in the use of cannabis while ensuring our students are able to make informed, responsible and safe decisions. This past year we established internal policies and procedures for the college, and, with this campaign, we are focusing on our students,” she said.
