On-stage shows and 12 chances to win part of the fun in Summerside

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - The Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside is celebrating the holiday season with two shows and 12 special giveaways this month.

“Christmas is a time to get together with friends and loved ones,” says Kieran Keller, the theatre’s executive director. “We’ve curated shows this month to encourage families and friends to come together at the theatre and enjoy a time of community, friendship and festive family fun.”

On Dec. 15, the theatre hosts Don Fraser and friends for a “Holly Jolly Christmas”, an evening of holiday music, stories and sing-along-songs. As a special treat, audience members will get to enjoy complimentary Christmas cookies during the intermission. Artists set to take the stage during the evening include Marlane O’Brien, Caroline Bernard, Kendall Docherty and Catherine O’Brien. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

“We are very pleased to have Don, Marlane and all the others back for another great year of Christmas music and stories,” said Keller. “Their show, ‘Home for the Holidays’, was a favourite around here for many years, and we’re really looking forward to having them join us for this year’s show.”

To celebrate the end of the year, Harbourfront welcomes DuffleBag Theatre and its adaptation of the beloved fairy tale, “Snow White”. The group performs in Summerside at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30. The performers specialize in interactive plays that give hilarious, new twists to classic stories and that are tailored to young audiences.

Also this month, the theatre has partnered with Spud FM and the Brothers 2 restaurant for its “You Deserve a Night Out” contest. Community members were able to nominate individuals for a chance to win a well-deserved night out. Nominations closed on Dec. 5 with over 200 nominees entered in the draw. The theatre is randomly drawing 12 winners for prizes this month, with each prize consisting of two tickets to a Harbourfront comedy performance and a $50 Brothers 2 gift card. The drawing began on Dec. 6 and will continue until Dec. 17.
